PAUL Murphy was on the scoresheet as he signed off as captain of Pershore with a 3-1 win at Evesham in West Midlands Division Two.
With both teams needing a win, Evesham started the stronger of the two sides with a new-look line-up constantly challenging the visitors’ defence.
However, it was Pershore who opened the scoring through Murphy, finishing off a training ground-style short corner routine with aplomb in what would be his last game as skipper due to work commitments.
It was Pershore who scored next through Russell Scudamore after a sharp strike at a short corner with 20 minutes of the game remaining.
A heartened Evesham side then grabbed a goal from a short corner which deflected past Gareth Rushton.
However, with their backs against the wall, Karl Lawson and Scudamore linked up to close the game out with the latter scoring a scruffy goal.
Trailing 1-0 at the break, Mary Small equalised in the second-half.
The hosts also defended stoutly with player-of-thematch Cat Pinney making some crucial saves and Sam Witherford deflecting all five penalty corners awarded.
