ST Catharines remain in the hunt for the top qualifying spot in the Cotswold Floorball League ‘A’ team competition.

Despite losing 5-0 to CCS, the Saints defeated Shipston 2-1 and now face matches against Bredon Hill and Dormer House next month to determine the final positions.

In their first match, Joshi Gibb and Dominic Monroe netted two apiece with David Musgrave adding the final goal for CCS.

But Saints hit back and moved 2-0 up against Shipston through Adam Robinson’s goals and held on to record a 2-1 win. In the girls’ league, Bourton-on-the- Water were 4-1 winners against Shipston, with two goals from Isabel Honour and one each for Tyla Crammen and Georgina Cyphus after Antonia Fairbourne had given Shipston an early lead.

Honour also scored the only goal in seeing off Ilmington, while keeper Lauren Davis was in fine form at the other end.

Shipston also drew 1-1 with Ilmington, with Pheobe Douglass’ goal for the former being cancelled out by Anna Whittaker. CCS struggled to raise a team and only had five players available, but still managed to record three victories.

Grace Lees was a lastminute replacement in goal and conceded two goals in the three matches.

Anna Wookey gave the seniors an early lead only for a rare defensive lapse to allow Lucy Sampson to level.

Alexia Doughty put CCS ahead again and Wookey made it 3-1 at the final whistle.

CCS had their most difficult match against Bourton.

Chloe Whitworth gave CCS the lead before Honour levelled by finding a tiny gap at the post.

Madeleine Parsons made several interceptions to keep the Bourton attack at bay before Doughty picked up a rebound off the back wall to secure a 2-1 win.

In their final match, CCS enjoyed all the early pressure against a young Ilmington outfit, for who Lauren Davis was in sparkling form.

Eventually, Whitworth’s hard work forced the opening goal and then Wookey’s pass was flicked home by Alice Reast.

Whitworth then made it 3-0 following a first-time pass out of defence from Parsons.
