Dedicated Bowlt earns accolade

JOHN Bowlt was presented with the Page Trophy for club person of the year at Chipping Norton.

Chairman Val Harris handed over the accolade at the outdoor section’s annual meeting.

She said: “John has worked very hard this year, not only as PR and recruitment officer but also as assistant greenkeeper and with his wife Mollie on the gardens.

“We very much appreciate his and his wife’s efforts during the year.

“Thanks to all the hardworking members of the club who have contributed to the successful year, including greenkeepers, gardeners, caterers and those that have organised events and club competitions.”

Captain Dennis Barnes led the men’s team to promotion from Oxford League Division Three, while the section added seven new members during the year.

As well as Harris being chairman, Freddy Brooks was elected as secretary.

Other appointments include Mike Harris (fixture secretary), Tony Backer Holst (Oxford Bowls Association delegate and men’s league captain), Val Harris (ladies’ captain), Ken Jones (West Ox captain), Bowlt (competition secretary and PR) and Keith Field (membership secretary).

Committee members are Doreen Molyneaux, Les Gardner, Peter Willers and Len McDonald.
