PERSHORE Town were knocked out of the Les James Challenge Cup in the third round following a 4-1 defeat to Midland Combination Premier Division rivals Bolehall Swifts at the Winstanley King George V Stadium.

The match was evenly contested for the majority of the first-half when the hosts had good efforts through Dane Aldington’s header and Mark Owen narrowly putting the ball wide after being released by Matt Tyler.

Steve Webb and Gary Price were also denied by last ditch tackles from Swifts defenders when through on goal.

However, it was a 35th minute counter-attack from the visitors, third in the table and 12 places higher than Pershore, that led to the opening goal.

Bolehall scored another goal early in the second-half and when a third followed soon after, the game was effectively over.

Matt Hunt scored the goal of the game for the hosts with a superb 30-yard strike into the roof of the net but Bolehall added a fourth in injury-time.

  • EVESHAM United ladies thrashed Bridgnorth Spartans 7-0.

The hosts took the lead after 25 minutes when Katie Armento beat the offside trap and raced to the by-line to cross for Hannah Campbell to fire home.

Spartans continued to battle but Evesham were not to be thwarted and a second goal from Campbell was quickly followed by one from Grace Harker.

Then, following a passing move across the back line, Rosie Johns fed the ball to player-of-the-match Kasey Corbett, who crashed through the Spartans defensive line to chip the keeper for number four.

Bridgnorth regrouped in the second-half and had chances themselves but these were snuffed out by the Evesham defence.

Laura Ball, in only her second appearance for the team, extended the lead before Hannah Watts added the sixth and Ball the seventh.

  • BOTTOM-of-the-table Broadway United Under 15s lost 4-1 at home to Tewkesbury in Ambassador Evesham League Pool ‘A’.

Keeper Rhys Grantham kept the hosts in the game in the first-half but Tewkesbury had taken a 1-0 lead going into half-time.

After shipping three more goals in the second-half, Broadway grabbed a consolation through Matt Cowley.
