LITTLETON created a major shock by beating runaway leaders Brocton 4-1 on their own patch in the St Mary’s Hospice Midland Football Combination Premier Division.

The hosts previously won 13 league games and drew the other two but seventh-placed Littleton dominated the first hour in Stafford.

At half-time, the only surprise was the visitors led by one goal as it could have been three or four.

Littleton took a second-minute lead when Will Gayton’s cross was headed down by Alex Baird for Stuart Hall to convert from close range.

Gayton’s effort was smothered and Baird’s header well saved by the keeper. The fusilade of shots continued with Hall, Kyonn Evans and Richard Tomkins going close.

But three goals in the first seven minutes of the second period rushed Littleton into a 4-0 lead.

A sweeping move led to Hall feeding Evans, who converted with ease. He returned the compliment by setting up Hall for his second. Then a Nathan Hayward cross was headed in by Baird to make it four.

Brocton put Littleton under intense pressure in response with Paul McMahon pulling a goal back on the hour.

They hit the woodwork and had an effort disallowed but found keeper Haydn Whitcombe in outstanding form.

Defenders Glen Sitch, Adam Guest, Simon Fitter and Tomkins also impressed for Littleton.

  • Fifth-from-bottom Pershore’s poor away form continued with a 3-1 loss at Stafford Town in the Premier Division.

Having conceded from Stafford’s first attack, the visitors fell further behind midway through the opening half when a loose ball in the box was finished off.

It took the visitors 30 minutes to make their mark as Garry Price buried a rebound off the keeper from close range.

Mark Owen’s penalty was saved but, having started the second-half strongly, Pershore fell 3-1 behind against the run of play. Town keeper Matt Oliver also stopped a spot-kick late on.
