Pershore miss out on bragging rights after derby KO

7:00am Saturday 28th December 2013

PERSHORE were involved in a Midlands Three West (South) cliffhanger with title-chasing Ledbury before losing 16-12.

A controlling factor between two even teams was a fierce, gusty wind with the Herefordshire visitors benefitting during the first-half.

But, within 30 seconds of the start, Pershore scored a converted try between the posts.

With a much heavier pack and fly-half Tommy Hayes holding an upper hand for the first 30 minutes, the hosts were only denied by steady defence.

Ledbury clawed back three points with a penalty and gradually their pack dominated despite the disadvantage.

Another penalty closed the gap to a single point at half-time. Ledbury moved ahead with a third penalty in the second period as their scrum produced ample possession against the elements.

Then a fly-half break from inside his own half set up a decisive converted try for Ledbury.

With 15 minutes left, the loss of front-row players meant uncontested scrums and Pershore hit back, punching holes into the midfield.

Pressure brought an unconverted try and they continued to pound the line but spilled ball after a crunching tackle allowed Ledbury to clinch victory.

Pershore host their rearranged RFU Midlands Senior Vase third round clash with Yardley and District at 2.15pm.
