GLOUCESTER’S rampaging rugby lock Elliott Stooke could come into the senior England reckoning, according to Kingsholm director of rugby Nigel Davies.

The ex-Prince Henry’s High School, Evesham, pupil and Stow-on-the-Wold player, 20, has been one of their standout performers during a dismal campaign. Stooke was in England’s successful Junior World Cup-winning side.

Davies said: “Our pack has taken a bit of criticism but Elliott has played a big part.

He’s only 20 but is developing all the time and he’s only going to get better.”

Stooke said: “Watching Martin Johnson lift the World Cup in 2003 inspired me to want to be someone like that — what a great man.

“There are other phenomenal players out there, like Victor Matfield and Bakkies Botha, and I study guys like that to try and add things to my game.”
