Bourton juniors in league success

MORE than 30 Bourton Roadrunners juniors tackled the toughest course so far this season in the Gloucestershire Cross Country League third round at Malvern.

Bethan Powell led most of the under 11s’ girls race but was overtaken in the later stages for second, which still left her first overall in the table.

Lauren Farley’s first league race saw her finish 10th overall, while Helena West managed 14th as the third-placed ‘A’ team came home second on the day.

The improving Isobel Barnett was 18th, Ella Davies 20th and Isabel Kiey-Thomas, who has been out with illness, 23rd with the ‘B’ side recording fifth.

Bourton’s race championship award winner Libby Herbert crossed the line in 25th, Megan Gibson 27th and Ellie Edgerton 30th for the eighth-placed ‘C’ team. Roadrunners’ female athlete of the year Niamh Powell led the under 13s girls’ race and heads the league.

Lucy Griffin finished fifth after winning the Gloucestershire schools’ finals the week before.

Felicity Darwent was 11th to bring the table-topping ‘A’ team home first on the day.

The promising Josephine Mutsaars, third in the Gloucestershire schools’ event, was 14th, Charlotte Foster 21st and Gabby Jones 32nd with the girls ‘B’ group ending up sixth.

Kate Edgerton finished 35th, Isobel Hartley 37th and Emily Williams 39th for the ninthplaced ‘C’ side. Rosie Mutsaars was fourth in the under 15s girls’ section. For the boys, Dylan Williams finished fourth in the under 11s for second in the league.

Josh Angus was 13th and Louis Mutsaars 19th for the secondplaced ‘A’ team, who lead the table. Nine-year-old Beau Griffin ran well for 22nd, while Henry Bell managed 24th and Charlie Davidson 26th with the ‘B’ group fifth.

Dicken Tilley-Loughrey was 28th, Findlay Morriss 32nd, Alfie Griffin 47th, Toby Sellek 48th, Jacob Herbert 51st, George Quli 52nd and Christopher Hunt 53rd.

The ‘C’ team were eighth and ‘D’ outfit 10th.

Bourton's male athlete of the year Peter Wood managed 11th in the under 15s.
