BREDON sports clubs managed to play through the wet weekend but with contrasting fortunes.

The table-topping Bredon Star rugby union side continued to set the pace at the top of Gloucestershire Division Two with a 21-14 win at second- from-bottom Westburyon- Severn.

In a tough day for Star’s pack against a strong set of forwards, resolute defending and strong ball carrying proved decisive in the final few minutes. Gav Maber and Stef Lasota scored tries with the former kicking one conversion and three penalties.

Leaders Star are two points ahead of Old Cryptians, who have a game in hand, and they head to Bristol Aeroplane Company on Saturday (2.30pm).

But Bredon’s second-from-bottom football team crashed 6-1 at title-chasing Ruardean Hill Rangers in Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division One.
