VALE sprinter Zoe Styles started 2014 with a new personal best and Worcester Athletic Club record at Cardiff Metropolitan University.

The Evesham High School pupil, 18, became the first Worcester club female athlete to break eight seconds for the 60 metres, beating a 15-year-old record.

Styles, who favours the 200m, earned her first international vest for England under 20s in the summer.

Training partners Georgina Greenwood and Heather Paton, both 17-year-old Pershore High School students, had fine starts to the year.

Greenwood, a county triple jumper, won her first indoor 400m race, while Paton has been invited to the British Senior Championships and recorded a time below nine seconds in the 60m hurdles.

Ex-Pershore High pupil Ella Gibbons, 19, impressed for Worcester at the Loughborough open with 1.71m in the high jump.
