Build on success urges Collicutt

EVESHAM United visit Clevedon Town on Saturday (3pm) aiming for back-to-back Calor Southern League Division One South and West victories for the first time this season.

Paul Collicutt’s side opened their 2014 account with a 5-0 thrashing of 10-man Thatcham Town at the Spiers and Hartwell Jubilee Stadium last weekend.

It was their first match in a fortnight following postponements and saw them consign the 6-2 home defeat against Wimborne Town to the history books.

Collicutt has challenged his players to build on the success by registering another three points in north Somerset.

The Robins manager said: “The one thing the club haven’t done is win two games on the bounce all season. That’s something we would like to try and do on Saturday if we can.

“We were a little low on numbers against Thatcham but the lads responded very well and finished their chances, which is something they haven’t done for a while.

“It’s pleasing we had five different scorers. We could have doubled that tally and have been threatening to do that for a while. But it’s only one game and now we go on to the next one.”

Clevedon are two places lower in the table and, under new boss Paul McLoughlin, are looking to bounce back from a 3-2 defeat at Guildford City.

Collicutt added: “Clevedon are going through a few changes themselves.

“We know what a new manager can do so I am expecting to see a response from them and make it difficult for us.”

Evesham are set to be boosted by the return of captain Richard Mansell, midfielder Neil Barnfield and substitute keeper Louie Barnfather from onematch bans, but centre-half Alton Axton continues to serve a three-match suspension.

Striker Marcus Palmer is back in contention having missed the Thatcham victory through work commitments.

The new central defensive pairing of Will Wellon and Dan Watkin could keep their places after impressing Collicutt on their debuts.
