BRETFORTON gained an invaluable three points in West Clubs Women's Hockey League Premier Division '2A' by beating a tough Swindon team 1-0.

In a game that ebbed and flowed, Swindon had a flurry of short corners in the first-half that the solid Bret defence kept out.

The hosts made the breakthrough when a goalmouth scramble saw the ball pop out to Hayley Whitehouse, who smashed the ball into the back of the net.

Bret continued to push on and Deb Slatter came close to getting their second goal, while Whitehouse was denied by a fine save.

Swindon refused to give up, though, and Bret's player-of-the-match Daisy Wheeler produced a last-ditch tackle to save an almost certain goal.

On Saturday, Bret visit City of Bath, who they are currently tied with in second place in the league.
