EVESHAM Swimming Club hosted a successful PGL league first round.

A team boasting 12 PGL debutants finished a creditable third against strong opposition in Redditch, Pershore and Wyre Forest.

They fared well with three first places going to Sam Parker (23.25) and Isabelle Hornblow (23.57) in the nine years 25m butterfly and for Elysia Henly (22.25) in the girls' 10 and under backstroke.

There were also second places for debutants Amber Cape and Simeon Todorov in the girls' nine years breaststroke and boys' nine years 25m backstroke respectively.

Evesham recorded 12 more first places, firstly through Benjamin Mckenna (39.88) in the boys' 12 and under 50m backstroke and James Carsberg (21.32) in the boys' 11 and under 25m breaststroke.

Lydia Castle (38.25) won the girls' 13 to 14 50m backstroke and Evesham then dominated the 10 and under butterfly with wins for Oliver Foster (20.45) and Rachel Egan (20.81).

The 12 and under boys showed their strength with Luke Perry (46.84) taking the boys' 50m breaststroke and Alistair Witheford (35.50) the 50m freestyle.

Brodie Mabbett (45.40) triumphed in the girls' 12 and under 50m butterfly.

The boys' and girls' 11 and under teams claimed all four relay events for their age group.

There were 27 personal bests on the night alongside a number of individual and team speeding tickets, which bodes well for the start of the Nuneaton League in April.
