EVESHAM High School stepped in to allow the town rugby club's under 15s to host the touring Westcliffe High team from Essex and win 36-20.

A close battle between two even sides saw Evesham enjoy the edge in the forward play with Josh Hartland, Lewis Garrood and Lewis Cochrane leading the way in the maul and ruck.

In the sixth minute, Johnny Deakin’s neat offload put George Guy over for their first try.

A Kieran Raymer burst resulted in their second try and then, in the 22nd minute, Jack Richardson crashed over for the third with James Thompson adding the extras both times.

The visitors scored two quick tries in the second-half, with neither converted, but Evesham struck back with a converted effort in the 45th minute.

Two minutes later, Deakin went over for Evesham’s fifth and Thompson converted before kicking a late penalty.

Richardson and Thompson were joint players-of-the-match for the hosts.
