PERSHORE Hockey Club's women extended their unbeaten record to six games with a 3-2 success at Stourport thirds in Worcestershire League Division One.

They started brightly with good passing in the first 10 minutes to take control.

Nicki Sheppard and Ceri Barber provided Kate Adams and Emma Gardner with several opportunities and it was not long before the deadlock was broken through a follow-up from Mary Small.

Mid-table Pershore retained possession for most of the first-half and a fine cross by Gardner allowed Adams to increase the advantage.

But, despite good positioning from Emily Capaldi and Sam Witherford, Stourport found space and two quick goals followed before the end of the first period.

Stourport started stronger in the second-half and kept the momentum through their attacking midfield with Pershore forced to play defensively.

However, a lone break by Gardner gave Pershore the lead which they held on to ahead of Saturday's visit to Harborne thirds.

The men's firsts lost 5-2 at leaders West Bromwich in West Midlands Division Two with Anthony Handley and Russell Scudamore on target. The fifth-placed side host basement boys Yardley on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Evesham moved above Pershore to fourth spot with a 4-1 win at Whitchurch.

Pershore seconds defeated Kingswinford 5-3 despite conceding two early goals.

Mark Passmore scored twice with the other strikes coming from Paul Grummitt, Graham Handley and Steve Quantrell.

The game was spoilt by a red card towards the end when a Kingswinford player lashed out at Passmore.
