PERSHORE will send a record number of swimmers to the 2014 Worcester County Championships which start this weekend in Wolverhampton.

Twenty-eight members have achieved at least one county qualifying time with competitors in 190 individual events.

Pershore look to build on the club’s success last year when Simon Sweatman, 11, won multiple age group titles, while Isabella Woodcock and Naomi Marsden were dominant in the breaststroke and backstroke respectively.

It will be the first time at the championships for the likes of Jasmine Franks, Roan Williams, Lauren Annis, Tamara Marsden, Alexandra Barry, Jasmine Hoskins, Olivia Howard and Daisy Tolley,

Head coach Tom Naughton said: “We’ve had a fantastic 12 months as a club and it shows the progress we are making having so many swimmers competing at this year’s championship.

"This is a record number of entries for Pershore which is fantastic news and we look forward to delivering a record haul of medals."

Meanwhile, Pershore youngsters made their competitive debuts at the Boldmere junior invitation meet in Birmingham with several coming away with medals and most producing personal bests.

Lauren Annis, nine, won golds in the 100-metre individual medley, 25m backstroke and 25m freestyle as well as a bronze in the 25m breaststroke.

Older sister Megan Annis, 10, claimed golds in the 50m backstroke and freestyle, silvers in the 50m breaststroke and butterfly and bronze in the 100m individual medley.

Martha Cross, eight, grabbed bronze in the 25m backstroke and produced pbs in the 25m breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle.

Older brother Hamish put on strong displays in the 100m individual medley and 50m breaststroke and butterfly.

Patrick Heeks, 10, beat several City of Birmingham swimmers for a superb silver in the 50m butterfly and continues to climb the county rankings.

Naomi Marsden produced an impressive pb to win the 50m backstroke in 34.46 seconds, one of the quickest times in the UK for an 11-year-old this year, and added a 50m freestyle bronze.

Isobel Cumming, 11, was fourth in the 100m individual medley with Jasmine Hoskins just edged into fifth in the same discipline.

Caitlin Yates was sixth in the 10 years 100m individual medley and Euan Kirby, eight, fourth in the boys' 25m breaststroke.

Liberty Deaville, Ella Webley, Olivia O’Sullivan, Liam Cope, Oliver Smith and James Heeks all made competitive debuts and smashed pbs.

There were also good performances from Helena Leach, Tamara Marsden, Sophie Thomas, Ellen Cope, Melissa Radley, Cameron Leach, Leo Rendall-Baker and Owen Kirby.
