County achievements for Vale four

VALE teenagers starred at the Shropshire County Championships in Wolverhampton for the Ellesmere College Titans swimming academy.

Fourteen-year-old Tazmin Pugh, of Pershore, bagged 12 golds, two silvers and a bronze, breaking nine county records and 15 for her club.

In the 800-metre freestyle, she broke nine minutes for the first time with eight minutes 59.61 seconds and smashed a county best set in 2007.

Pugh sits at the top of the UK end-of-year rankings.

She rose to third in the 200m freestyle with a swim of 2.06.33 and second in the 400m individual medley in 4.54.83.

A 100m butterfly gold in 1.03.82 consolidated first place in the UK rankings and she also tops the 200m butterfly after clocking 2.18.69.

Pugh has qualified for eight events at the National Age Group Championships in July and August.

Evesham's Chloe Golding, 15, took home 10 golds and two silvers together with seven county and club Records.

Her most impressive swims came in the 100m individual medley with 1.05.86 and the 100m backstroke with 1.02.11.

Golding also won the 50m butterfly in 28.85, 200m backstroke in 2.13.15, 50m backstroke in 29.57 and 200m individual medley in 2.21.47.

She leads one event in the UK rankings as well as being second and third in others.

Golding is preparing for the Commonwealth trials in Glasgow in April.

Both Pugh and Golding were top girls in the county in their respective age groups.

Harry Bamforth, 13, took golds in the 1,500m freestyle in 17.47.36 and 200m butterfly in 2.35.01 together with multiple silver and bronze medals alongside stunning personal bests.

Tyler McLean, 13, just competed in three events due to injury but won every breaststroke event and has qualified for the National Age Group Championships.
