PERSHORE Swimming Club are on target for a record medal haul after winning 11 age-group titles, 10 silvers and nine bronzes at the Worcester County Championships in Wolverhampton.

Simon Sweatman and William Gearey did battle in the boys’ 11-year-old races, with the former collecting eight golds.

Sweatman won the 200-metre breaststroke in three minutes 05.14 seconds and Gearey took silver in 3.12.78.

In the 50m butterfly, the same swimmer produced a new personal best of 33.20 to hold off Gearey, who took bronze in 33.80.

Sweatman claimed his third gold in the 400m individual medley in 5.37.77, with his younger team-mate securing silver in 5.52.75.

Their tussle continued in the 100m backstroke with Sweatman winning in 1.12.34 and Gearey adding silver in 1.16.48.

In the 100m individual medley, Sweatman picked up his fifth straight gold in 1.13.60 ahead of second-placed Gearey in 1.17.53. He added 100m butterfly gold in 1.15.72 and Gearey silver in 1.21.09.

The 200m freestyle saw Sweatman claw back his team-mate to win in 2.21.76 compared to 2.25.67. Sweatman collected his eighth gold in the 50m backstroke, with Gearey taking bronze.

Pershore’s Megan Annis landed silver in the girls’ 10-year-old 100m individual medley in 1.23.55.

She won the 100m backstroke in 1.21.06 and added a 200m freestyle bronze, while Naomi Marsden was third in the 11-year-old 100m backstroke in 1.18.85 and 50m backstroke in 35.98.

Annis bagged 200m breaststroke silver in 3.28.79 and Hannah Woodcock bronze in 3.30.70. In the 50m backstroke, Annis claimed gold in 37.23.

Amy Weston shone for bronze in the 12-year-old 100m backstroke in 1.15.11 for her first Midlands qualifying time of 2014.

Patrick Heeks secured his first county medal with bronze in the boys’ 10-year-old 50m butterfly in 38.41.

He produced one of his best swims to win the 100m backstroke in 1.22.75 and came third in the 50m backstroke.

Charlotte Downey grabbed silver in the 400m individual medley in 6.43.18 and Helen Annis added gold in the masters’ 50m freestyle in 31.36.

Jasmine Franks, Tamara Marsden, Lauren Annis, Olivia Howard, Macey French, Ronan Williams, Cameron Leach, Isobel Cumming, Jamie Saunders, Chris Vizard, Daisy Tolley, Josh Sharratt, Jasmine Taite, Beth Carter, Owen Leeks and Angus Jones produced PBs.
