Littleton frustrated with close away defeat
11:00am Tuesday 11th March 2014 in Sport
LITTLETON came away from Atherstone Town feeling they should have taken at least a point from a narrow 2-1 defeat.
The visitors had the wind and sun on their backs in the first-half of the Midland Combination Premier Division encounter and Jamie Insall went close in the fourth minute.
A fierce free-kick from Simon Fitter was clawed away by the keeper and Insall fired wide from a Stuart Hall through-ball, while Haydn Whitchombe denied Lee Chapman at the other end.
At the start of the second-half, Atherstone, kicking down the slope, laid siege to Littleton's goal and Whitcombe made two supern saves.
However, the opening goal came on 57 minutes with a close-range effort following a corner.
Littleton pressed and Hall had a penalty shout turned down before Atherstone were awarded a spot-kick at the other end which they scored from.
Hall pulled a goal back in the 88th minute as Littleton fought hard but Whitcombe had to save another penalty.
Littleton visit Alvechurch in the Worcestershire FA Senior Urn semi-finals next Tuesday (7.45pm).
