Robins aiming to end run of defeats

EVESHAM United coach Richard Smith is hoping his team can bounce back from three straight league defeats when they host bottom side Fleet Town tomorrow (3pm).

The Robins lost 2-1 at Taunton Town in Calor Southern League Division One South and West on Tuesday, having previously suffered defeats against Yate Town and Merthyr Town.

Despite the reverse against Taunton, Smith saw a lot of positives with the performance and placed emphasis on confidence being key to get out of their losing run.

Smith, taking charge with assistant manager Mark Boyland in the absence of manager Paul Collicutt, said: “From the outside in it looks bad with one win in five, but we were starting to build up that confidence again and we’ve told the lads they've got to work hard in the league if they want to achieve wins.

“We haven’t won back-to-back games in the league all season, so it is essential for us to try to gain some consistency to head into our last 10 games.”

Attacking midfielder Marcus Jackson and striker James Vercesi both face fitness tests before tomorrow's match at the Spiers and Hartwell Jubliee Stadium.

They are also hoping to include centre-half Richard Mansell, who missed the game in mid-week after becoming a father. Defender Linden Dovey is still struggling with a knee injury.
