HOSTS Pershore beat the three-year Midlands Ladies’ Touch Rugby League champions Bromyard for the first time.

They finished second out of 10 teams in round three in Wyre Piddle and made the semi-finals, having scored the most tries (19) and conceded the fewest (2) across two pools.

Pershore pushed Bromyard into third place with a 2-0 win before losing 2-1 in the final to Camp Hill.

They moved into second spot in the table with eight more tournaments to play until November.

Coach and player Alice Keylock said: “The standard across all of the teams has improved so much since the league was formed in 2010.

“There are now five teams who are pushing for the top positions, which means it is a really good competition. It is no longer a foregone conclusion that Bromyard are going to win everything as in previous years.”

Teresa Crowley scored six tries, while Sharon Moore was Pershore’s player-of-the-tournament.

Touch rugby training is at Pershore on Wednesdays at 7.30pm and Sundays at 10am.

Every fortnight in June and July on Wednesdays at 7.30pm, starting this week, the club stage mixed, open match nights.
