WORCESTER Wolves are primed for a British League play-off final rematch against Newcastle Eagles when the new season gets under way in September.

Paul James’ side will tip-off their 2014/15 campaign in the north-east against the defending league champions, who they defeated 90-78 at Wembley Arena last month.

The mouth-watering fixture on Friday, September 26, will be followed seven days later by a home clash against Cheshire Phoenix at the University Arena.

Head coach James said: “We have always had great games against Newcastle. It will have a bit of an edge with us having beaten them at Wembley in the play-off final and I know they’ll still be pretty sore about that.

“It’s a chance to lay down a marker and send a message out to the rest of the league. It could well come down to that one game.

“Last season we practically lost the league because we lost a game to Newcastle, and, had we won that we would have won the league.

“It’s a massive game but the pressure is just as much on them as it will be on us.

“We know what they’ll be like, hopefully we’ll have another strong team on the floor again and we’ll look forward to that challenge.”

Reigning league MVP Zaire Taylor, who left Worcester for London Lions earlier this month, will face his former side at the arena on Friday, November 7.

Wolves will play 36 league games next season, three more than in 2013/14, following the additions of on Bristol Flyers and Leeds Carnegie and withdrawal of Birmingham Knights.
