FORMER Evesham club rower Alex Gregory added to his medal collection with another World Cup gold.

Wormington’s Olympic champion Gregory, Mohamed Sbihi, George Nash and Andrew Triggs Hodge won the men’s four in Lucerne, Switzerland, as they finished ahead of Holland and Canada in five minutes 58.530 seconds.

Gregory, 30, said: “From my seat that was a fantastic race, one of the best we’ve done. We got into such a nice rhythm in the middle part of the race and that is what rowing should be about.”

The four are unbeaten this season. Meanwhile, Chipping Campden’s Matt Gotrel, 25, withdrew from the men’s eight final due to a rib injury before the crew claimed bronze behind Germany and Russia.

Great Britain enjoyed a successful day with three other gold medals and 14 final places.

The rowers compete in the World Championships in Amsterdam from August 24 until 31.
