THERE were thrills and spills for Bourton Roadrunners with some enjoying race success and others wilting in the heat.

Those who chose the Evesham 10-kilometre race over a multi-terrain course enjoyed good conditions with a cooling drizzle.

The event attracted around 540 runners and Bourton’s Ewen Smith finished fifth and first men’s veteran over 40 in 37 minutes two seconds.

Shona Crombie-Hicks was first woman and 13th overall in 38.36, which was a minute faster than last year when she finished second.

Also making the top 50 were Ian Shoemark (40.31), Tony Goodwill (41.36) and Andy Peaston (41.44).

Niamh Shoemark was first women’s veteran over 40 in 43.15, followed by Susan Hunt (47.11) and Ali Lane, who finished first women’s veteran over 55 in 51.48.

Bourton added to their trophy tally with the women’s team prize.

There were hot, sunny conditions for the Severn AC 10-mile race in the Gloucestershire Road Race Series.

Dennis Walmsley was fourth overall and first men’s veteran over 50 in one hour two minutes 49 seconds and Darren Long managed 12th in 1.08.24.

Steph Holton managed 1.27.19, while Dave Turnbull was first men’s veteran over 65 in 1.32.48.

Lynn Hudson battled with the heat and was helped home by first women’s veteran over 60, Liz Hulcup, in 1.42.58. John Gibson could not finish due to the heat but made a full recovery, as did Hudson.
