WORCESTERSHIRE show jumper Holly Jones has won the KBIS Insurance Senior British Novice second round at the Kingswood Equestrian Centre near Wolverhampton.

The 18-year-old from Pershore won the last of this year’s KBIS Insurance Senior British Novice competitions that took place in Albrighton.

The second round was popular with competitors and the big entry of 78 starters were all focused on qualifying for the championship final which takes place in August.

All of the starters were competing with the end goal of producing a treble clear round in mind in order to qualify for the KBIS Insurance Senior British Novice Championship final, which will be held at the Alexanders Horseboxes British Showjumping Scope Festival next month.

Following two rounds of well-fought competition, the final jump-off was contested by 33 combinations.

Impressively, 22 of those horse and rider teams went on to achieve the much sought after treble clear.

With the order of results still needing to be decided, the times recorded by the clock proved to be crucial to the outcome.

The fastest treble clear of the second round came from Jones on board her own nine-year-old bay mare Lexus V.

The Worcestershire teenager and Lexus secured victory with just 0.04 seconds to spare after producing their third clear round in just 36.73 seconds.

Cheshire’s Anthony French from Malpas secured the runners-up place on Kinsale Houdini, a six-year-old chestnut gelding owned by the Kinsale Stud.

This combination also posted a very quick treble clear, delivering it in just 36.77 seconds. Third place was awarded to 46-year-old Derek Morton from Stone in Staffordshire and he rode Kimgarwyn Bill-Bo, a seven-year-old bay gelding owned by Brian Squire.

Morton produced three clear rounds from his ride to finish on zero faults in 37.48 seconds.

With another 19 combinations also going on to achieve a treble clear, a total of 22 combinations from this second round will now go forward to the KBIS Insurance Senior British Novice Championship final.
