BRETFORTON began their West Clubs Women’s League Premier Division ‘2A’ season with a 4-3 home win over Newent.

The Vale side at times outplayed the visitors, who finished with them in the top three last season, especially in a 20-minute first-half spell.

Captain Tess Lewinton slipped home Hayley Whitehouse’s pass for the opener.

Lewinton added a second from Whitehouse’s pass before the latter scored her first with a superb solo effort sandwiching a Newent strike.

Bret grabbed a fourth in the second period through Whitehouse again from Danni Cox’s short corner.

Newent hit back to make it 4-3 but were denied more by player-of-the-match Vicky Watkins in goal and right-back Polly Christian.

Bret visit City of Bath on Saturday.
