A YOUNG coach at Broadway United Youth is hoping others will follow in his footsteps.

Oliver Schofield leads the under 10s, who have 16 players signed on for seven-a-side football in the Ambassador Evesham League this season.

He believes the club’s popularity is down to a “family friendly atmosphere”.

Schofield said: “One thing I have noticed, though, from the three years I’ve spent volunteering to coach youth football is the lack of other young coaches. I’m only 26 and most other coaches I meet are fathers of players, therefore generally a fair bit older than me.

“I’d love to encourage and inspire other young footballers like myself in the area to give up some free time to volunteer to coach. It’s very rewarding and enjoyable.

“The advantage of being a young coach is that you can relate easier to the children and are more confident in showing off techniques and skills to them as I play football regularly myself. It’s also a lot of fun.”

The under 10s are backed by Russell’s Fish and Chips of Broadway.

Broadway’s under eights and nines teams are seeking new players.
