HANLEY Swan trainer David Dennis enjoyed his first win at Cheltenham.

Six-year-old Roman Flight (16-1) claimed the giftofracing.co.uk Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle, which was worth £6,256 to owners Favourites Racing.

It was the first ride in England for young Irish conditional jockey Shane Quinlan, 19.

Former jockey Dennis said: “It was a great team effort from all at Tyre Hill stables, as well as superb performances by Shane and Roman Flight.

“We were really pleased with the win as Roman Flight had been a very consistent horse all season and we knew he had it in him to land a nice race.

“It was tense and, despite a nod on landing at the last, we were over the moon when he got the better of Nicky Henderson’s Hammersly Lake by just a head, to land the spoils.

“We plan to give him one more run and then a well-deserved break before aiming for a return to Cheltenham at the famous National Hunt Festival in March, where he could run nicely again.

“We were also pleased with the performance by Angus Glens at Redcar, who was only beaten by two lengths in the end.”
