EVESHAM Golf Club's men turned their attention to the first stableford of the winter season with the Roger Smith RNLI competition.

Nearly 70 players took to the fairways playing off the white tees and full handicap.

Conditions again proved to be difficult with the wind and softer fairways making the course play much longer.

The winner off a handicap of 27 was Will Winterburn with 39 points.

The runner-up, despite scoring three birdies in the final four holes, was ‘A’ team captain Barrie Saggers with 38 off his eight handicap.

Dave Tarry was third on count-back playing off 16.

Meanwhile, 92 The Vale seniors turned out for a charity stableford four-ball.

John Jarvis, Martin Westwood, Mick Lewis and Tony Perryman won with 119 points.

Gerry Clayton, David Carrington, Ian Haywood and Norman Cannock were second on 115 followed by John Turner, Barry Crosby, Colin Emms and Martin Rees (113).

Mike Spittle and David Rimell won the charity draw.

Fifty Broadway men’s pairs played the first round of their winter league.

The better-ball stableford was won with 50 points by Rob Webb and Alan Parker, leaving Brian Wright and David Drinkwater second on 49.

Third were Jim Hutchison and Richard Broadbridge (47), beating Mike Everitt and Richard Shaw on count-back.
