MANAGER Andy Robbins feels Littleton are getting back to their best after they returned to the top of Midland League Division One with a thumping 4-0 victory at Southam United.

Robbie Bunn scored twice in Tuesday’s clash, alongside strikes from Kyonn Evans and Stuart Hall, to take Littleton ahead of Highgate United at the summit on goal difference.

The victory was their third in a row after a 2-1 league win over Atherstone Town and a 1-0 success at Cadbury Athletic in the Les James Challenge Cup.

The Southam win was achieved without six first-teamers due to injury and suspension.

But midfielders Joe Smith and Luke Richardson, who have signed from Evesham United and Badsey Rangers respectively, made their debuts.

Robbins, whose side travel to lowly Stafford Town on Saturday (3pm), said: “It was our best performance of the season even though we were well under-strength. We are back to how we were playing a few weeks ago.”

Robbins believes Littleton’s turnaround in fortunes — they went three league games without a win last month — could be down to a decision to play two midweek friendlies in a bid to restore confidence.

He explained: “We had a bit of a lean spell about five weeks ago when we struggled to score goals. I decided then to put on two friendlies. We played a Worcestershire teachers’ XI and beat them 11-0 and then we played Worcester Olympic under 21s and beat them 8-0.

“Whether that had something to do with it, I don’t know, but I wanted us to keep playing for confidence.”

Littleton host Alvechurch in the Worcestershire FA Senior Urn quarter-finals next Wednesday (7.45pm).

Meanwhile, Evesham United’s Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West trip to Cinderford Town on Tuesday was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

The 14th-placed Robins, who drew 0-0 at home to Larkhall Athletic last weekend, visit Tiverton Town on Saturday (3pm).

They then travel to Stourbridge in the Worcestershire FA Senior Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday (7.45pm).

Second-from-bottom Pershore Town lost 1-0 at Heather St Johns in Midland League Division One last weekend and host Bolehall Swifts on Saturday (3pm).

Tuesday’s home league match against Bromsgrove Sporting was postponed.
