THE Zara Philips-trained Devils Boys aims to turn over a strong field in Sunday’s Subaru restricted point-to-point series contest at Heythrop Hunt’s Cocklebarrow Races.

Owned by Anton Palmer and trained in Gloucestershire by the equestrian ace, connections of Devils Boys hope for a more successful run than last year when he fell.

But, with a solid fourth place under his belt at Larkhill earlier this month, he is set for a positive performance. Young Mickey Bowen’s Weight it Up is ready for his first run of the season and will be among the favourites going on previous form.

With the weight of the mighty Bowen team behind him in National Hunt trainer father Peter, and conditional jockey brother Sean, there could be no stopping them.

All eyes are on the weather forecast. With milder temperatures coming in for the weekend, Cocklebarrow looks likely to go ahead unhindered by the recent freezing conditions.

With an indoor, heated marquee for spectators to enjoy their picnics and a children’s area with extensive activities, visitors will be kept well entertained.

At the heart of the attractions are the team from Cheltenham Subaru dealership John Wilkins exhibiting models from the current range, including one of the first exposures of the new Outback model in the UK.

Horses running in the Subaru-supported restricted race must not have not won any race under the rules of any recognised racing authority other than a maiden or hunt members race to be eligible.

The top three go on to qualify for the prestigious final at Stratford on Friday, May 29, and compete for a slice of the £10,000 prize fund. Cocklebarrow Races, organised by Heythrop Hunt, are located just off the A40 between Northleach and Aldsworth in Gloucestershire.

The first race starts at 11am with the Subaru restricted race the third on the card just after 1pm.

Entry costs £20 per car.
