CHIPPING Campden opened their 2015 fixtures with a 6-1 thrashing of Gloucester fourths in West Clubs Women’s League Severn Division Two.

With the previous week’s fixture postponed due to a frozen pitch, third-placed Campden returned to action in style.

The opening 10 minutes were frustrating for the hosts with players holding the ball too long, not using the width of the pitch and lacking final passes into the ‘D’.

Despite this, captain Lucy Ford managed to beat her defender and get the ball over the line to take the lead on 20 minutes.

However, second-from-bottom Gloucester hit back with an equaliser following a well-worked short-corner routine.

Campden kept their heads up and were rewarded.

Good skills from Charlotte Styles on the right wing created a chance for Kerry Jackson to hammer home before the interval.

The Cotswold side found their momentum in the second-half with a much better all-round performance.

Player-of-the-match Jodie Russell was a constant threat to the Gloucester defence, while Rachael Barker returned to the side with great confidence.

Sally Beale gave Campden a two-goal cushion when she fired in a short corner.

Then Berni Amphlett crossed for Jackson’s rebounded shot to be picked up by Sarah Green for an easy tap-in.

Jackson and Beale each added another goal to finish off a fine second-half display.

Campden will look to carry on their winning form when they travel to second-placed Cheltenham fourths on Saturday at St Edward’s School (10.30am).

Blockley, who lead Division One, were not in action but Bourton and Sherborne are third after a 3-1 win at Cheltenham Civil Service. Their thirds crashed 5-1 at Newent thirds in Division Three.

Blockley host Badgers on Saturday and Bourton and Sherborne entertain Shipton Oliffe.

Division Three fixtures see Bourton and Sherborne thirds at home to Blockley seconds and their seconds visiting Lansdown thirds.

In men’s hockey, lowly Bourton and Sherborne stunned second-placed Aberystwyth University with a 3-1 home win in Davis Wood League De Cymru and The Marches Division Two.

The third-from-bottom Cotswold side head to Cleevillians on Saturday.

The sixth-placed ‘A’ team won 7-1 at Cirencester ‘C’ in The Marches Division Two and host Gloucester City ‘C’ this weekend.

Winchcombe drew 5-5 with Cheltenham ‘E’ in a mid-table goal feast and welcome Wotton-under-Edge ‘B’ on Saturday.
