ASHLEY Edenborough’s controversial leveller two minutes from time rescued a point for Evesham United in Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West.

The Robins’ leading marksman netted an 88th-minute goal, with Wimborne Town claiming a handball, after the visitors stunned the home crowd with two goals in four second-half minutes.

Wimborne, who are 10th in the table, had arrived at the Jubilee Stadium with one of the best away records in the division but found themselves a goal behind after just 12 minutes.

Adam Mann, with his back to goal, held off the challenge of several defenders before finding Jared Wilson who drove the ball home.

Soon after the opening goal, Edenborough found the back of the net only to have his effort disallowed by the referee for a foul on Magpies’ goalkeeper Jason Harvell.

Lee Smith then fired too high and, soon afterwards, narrowly failed to get a touch on George Washbourne’s cross.

During the opening exchanges of the second-half, Mann wriggled his way clear only to be denied by Harvell.

The game then swung in Wimborne’s favour with two goals in quick succession. Evesham failed to clear Sam Griffin’s corner and allowed Ian Oliver to level the match.

Then, with Evesham’s defence all at sea, Griffin broke down the right and crossed to Stoke, who side-footed the ball into the net to give Town a 2-1 advantage.

As the clock ticked down and the conditions worsened, Evesham piled on the pressure, with several efforts sailing wide and Harvell saving well from Edenborough and substitute Lance Smith.

However, an equaliser duly arrived after Edenborough was brought down on the edge of the box.

From Mann’s resulting free-kick, the striker planted a firm header past Harvell, according to Evesham, for his 12th goal of the campaign but Wimborne claimed the use of a hand.
