CROWD favourite Robertas Bitinas says the reception of the Worcester Wolves fans has made him feel immediately at home.

The 31-year-old swapped his homeland of Lithuania for Worcester at the end of last month to link up with the British Basketball League club for the rest of the season following injury to Disraeli Lufadeju.

It was a decision Bitinas says he had just “three hours” to make due to the looming transfer deadline.

But he has wasted little time in making a name for himself after his efforts in the victories over Plymouth Raiders and Durham Wildcats.

His dazzling dribbling got the crowd to their feet in the 86-85 win against Plymouth, a match in which Bitinas also managed to get fouled out of, before he hit six three-pointers in the first quarter as Wolves sunk Durham 89-73.

“I’m a shooting guard and I like shooting threes,” he said. “It was surprising that there were so many people in the arena and everybody was so warm and happy to see me and the team.

“It’s always easier to come to a new place when you know that people are waiting for you and happy to see you.”

He continued: “It was a quick move, I had three hours to make a decision to go or not so I decided to go. It was easy because I wanted to play basketball and when I had an opportunity to go somewhere abroad and play I took it.

“I like Worcester and the team. I’m here to play basketball, that’s the thing I love to do so everything is ok.”

Bitinas will be hoping to make a further impact when Wolves return to action at Leeds Force on Friday as they bid to cement their place in the BBL top four ahead of the play-offs.

He said: “Our main target is to win a championship like they did last year and I am here to help.”
