FOUR Pershore Swimming Club members tackled long-distance events at the last weekend of the Worcester County Championships, in Redditch.

They secured three golds and one silver medal, as well as producing personal bests in all races.

Pershore’s final county haul was 78, with 37 golds, 23 silvers and 18 bronzes.

Alexandra Barry won the girls’ 11 years age group in her first competitive attempt at the 1,500m freestyle, clocking 20 minutes 18.38 seconds.

Teammates Will Gearey and Simon Sweatman battled it out in the boys’ 12 years category.

Gearey took the title in 18.46.18 for a Midland qualifying time, and Sweatman bagged silver in 19.08.41.

In the girls’ 12 years 800m freestyle, Isobel Cumming was sixth in 11.04.81.

Gearey added a second gold, winning the boys’ 12 years 800m freestyle in 9.53.85.

Pershore coach Ian Cumming said: “Big PBs in these events come as a result of hard training over many months and from demonstrating total commitment to the sport.

“The performances in the distance events, and over the last two weekends in the other distances in the county championship, were nothing short of amazing and make me really proud to be associated with the fantastic swimmers from Pershore.”
