A close match saw the final, deciding, game go to the 18th hole.

Lyn Robinson, Shona Rollins, Clare Bunn, Audrey Sidwell and Wendy Towers make up the team.

Meanwhile, 54 The Vale ladies played a 16-hole three-ball alliance.

Rollins, Kath Hudders and Heather Shackleton won with 66 points ahead of Fee Mitchell, Jas Bishop and Sandy Warburton (60) and Pat Darch, Mary Carrington and Penny Sharp (59).

Forty-seven ladies played a 16-hole greensomes competition.

Liz Banner and Jan Taylor triumphed with 33 points followed by Carrington and Jill Millard (29 on count-back) and Jenny Braithwaite and Warburton (29).

Eighty-two The Vale seniors competed for the Bill Kelley Cup in a three-ball individual stableford.

John Milward claimed Division Two and the cup overall with 42 ahead of Mick Lewis (36), Jonathan Hill (35) and Bernard Rayner (35).

Division One went to Richard Fletcher with 37 points in front of Erle Andrews (35), Chris Filus (34) and John Eastoe (34).

Division Three was won by John Turner (37) followed by Brian Leggott (35), Ray Jakeman (35) and Tony Horner (35).

The twos competition was shared by John Hooper and Malcolm Armison.

Nearest the pin was Andy Castello on the third hole.

The Vale opened their season with a 6-1 home win over the normally formidable Hagley.

Meanwhile, Broadway club captain Warren McDivitt and partner Brian Lawrence triumphed one-up at home in their Daily Mail foursomes first round match.

They beat Chris Davis and Dave Goodwin from Ingon Manor, Stratford, in a close contest.
