CAVIAR may soon be a Shetland delicacy, if a plan for a sturgeon fish

farm, believed to be the first of its kind in the country, goes ahead.

Lerwick man Ian Selbie, who has been researching the idea for two years,

has been granted permission by Shetland Islands Council to instal 36

fish tanks at Broonie's Taing, Sandwick. The sturgeon, desired for both

eggs and flesh, can grow to about 10ft long. Mr Selbie said he intended

to import a stock of young sturgeon from Hungary, but as yet faces a

''mountain of paperwork'' before the idea, which could create up to 30

jobs, can go ahead.
