OLYMPIC champions Linford Christie and Sally Gunnell were named
athletes-of-the-year yesterday by the British Athletic Writers'
Association. Christie, 100 metres gold medallist in Barcelona, wins the
award for the second time, having also been chosen after having taken
silver at the 1988 Games in Seoul. Gunnell, 400m hurdles champion, is a
first-time winner.
SCOTTISH international steeplechaser Graeme Croll has won the
Panasonic Athlete-of-the-Month award for having broken the Scottish
League record for his event with a personal best of 8min 44.4secs. The
Cambuslang Harrier, twice national champion in the 3000m 'chase, wins
#100 for his club.
LINLITHGOW already have a strong group heading more than 400 entrants
for their 10,000 metres road race on Sunday in aid of the Cameron Sharp
Fund. There is a first prize of #100 and prizes down to tenth place.
Entry (#3.75 for club members, otherwise #4.25) can be made on the day
until 1.30pm at Linlithgow Borough Hall.
