A STRONG Pershore Swimming Club team finished fourth at the PGL final in Gloucester after qualifying in first place from the heats.

They managed 279 points, behind eventual winners Worcester (327), Cheltenham (297) and Redditch (284) in the development competition but ahead of Stourbridge (233), Wyre Forest (225), Northgate (219) and Evesham (216).

Jamie Saunders started well for Pershore with second in the boys’ 13 to 14-years 50-metre butterfly in 37.30 seconds, before the first win came in the 10/u medley relay in one minute 21.97 seconds through James Heeks, David Annis, Ollie Smith and Harry Wycherley.

The girls followed with a third in 1.23.10 for Tamara Marsden, Jasmine Hoskins, Amelia Gearey and Georgia Winkley in the same event.

Martha Cross won the nine years 25m freestyle in 18.74, as did the boys’ 12/u medley relay team in 1.11.84, through Ronan Williams, Kieran Cooper, Saunders and Cameron Leach.

Sophie Thomas was second in the girls’ 11/u 25m freestyle in 16.89 and Georgia Winkley won the 10/u 25m butterfly in 20.33.

The boys’ 13 to 14 medley relay team of Luke Perry, Jamie West, Josh Sharratt and Saunders were third in 1.21.97, with the girls’ group of Charlotte Downey, Hannah Simister, Amy Cooper and Helena Leach second in 1.23.10.

Lauren Annis took the 12/u 50m breaststroke in 46.08 and James Heeks was second in the boys’ 10/u 25m freestyle in 17.59.

Lewis Cribbin was runner-up in the nine-years 25m backstroke in 23.87, as was Perry in the 13/14 50m breaststroke in 40.48.

Caitlin Yates won the 13/14 50m breaststroke in 41.90 and Downey claimed the 12/u 50m freestyle in 33.18.

Heeks was second in the boys’ 10/u 25m backstroke in 21.47 and the 11/u medley relay team of Williams, Owen Kirby, Leo Rendall-Baker and Leach triumphed in 1.16.86.

The mixed nine-years medley relay team of Gabriella Barry, David Annis, Cross and Ethan Stanley were third in 1.29.23.

Wins followed in the girls’ 12/u 50m butterfly for Holly Winkley in 40.10, the 11/u 25m backstroke for Yates in 19.37, the boys’ 11/u 25m backstroke for Kirby in 20.67, the 10/u 25m breaststroke for David Annis in 23.62 and the nine-years 25m butterfly for Cribbin in 22.46.

The girls’ 13/14 freestyle relay team of Isobel Cumming, Cooper, Simister and Leach were second in 1.01.62, before the boys’ 11/u freestyle relay team of Saunders, Leach, Williams and Cooper won in 1.04.24.

The mixed nine years freestyle relay group of Cross, Cribbin, Barry and David Annis finished first in 1.13.35 and the boys’ 12/u freestyle relay grabbed third in 1.04.39.

The cannon relays saw the boys finish fifth in 2.56.22 and the girls manage second in 2.48.86.

There were 21 personal bests, with Macey French, Luke Drayton, Grace Styler and Jasmine Franks also competing.
