EVESHAM’S Olly Turner enjoyed success with second place at Lochgelly in the JASCAR Scottish Open Championship double-header.

Car developments and preparation ensured 12-year-old Turner had the Joey Logano replica back in shape after suffering damage in previous rounds.

Perfect track conditions set the foundation for two days of racing and the junior cars arrived with their gold bumpers in tribute to Scottish youngster Keir Millar, who died aged 11 in May after a crash at the Fife track.

Five heats run in reverse grids culminated in a championship final where the grid positions were earned.

Turner held on to grid positions on day one in dry but windy weather with two third places sandwiching a second spot.

Lap times showed the youngster had the pace but he was boxed in from his start in heats one and three.

Knowing what to do for the second day, a second place in heat four in the opener showcased the warmer temperature in the tyres and Turner’s confidence to push the car to its limits.

In an exhilarating fifth heat, the Bredon Hill Middle School pupil held his third place with quick pace and handling, which set him up for the concluding race.

Turner was in third spot with two laps of 12 to go in the final but moved up ahead of Toni Rogers to finish reserve Scottish champion in second.

He is also second in the championship with 1,520 points, behind leader Corben Lord (1,641) after finishing runner-up in the 2014 series.

Peterborough’s Lord took maximum points in Scotland by winning every race.

A pleased Turner, who is backed by Evesham’s Auto Enginuity, said: “It was the most fun I have had in ages and great to be in a competitive car.”

His next meeting is at Birmingham Wheels on Saturday, July 11.
