DEDICATED teenager Emily Workman gained her reward with a silver medal at the Coventry Open figure skating competition.

The Year Eight pupil at Bredon Hill Middle School in Ashton-under-Hill impressed in the International Judging System (IJS) event for competitors aged 13 and over.

Church Lench 13-year-old Workman trains on the ice at Solihull four times a week and is guided by award-winning coach Debbie Keeley.

She skated a routine to music with various jumps and spins, scoring 14.70, and received her trophy from former Manchester United ‘keeper Raimond van der Gouw, whose eldest child also competes.

Workman won a gold medal at a national open in Guildford for 11 to 12-year-olds last year.

Her mother Alison said: “Emily’s very dedicated and has been skating for four years. She also trains with her coach off the ice twice a week.

“She’d like to progress as high as she can in competitive skating and become a professional skater one day.”

The teenager, who has skated with both Dancing on Ice and American Disney On Ice cast members, is now preparing for a national open at Lea Valley, London, in September.
