EVESHAM United will meet Kidderminster Harriers in Saturday’s Worcestershire FA Senior Cup third-place play-off match at the Spiers and Hartwell Jubilee Stadium (11am).

The Robins lost 2-1 to Worcester City in a competitive semi-final at home on Monday after Tristian Dunkley’s winning goal 10 minutes from time.

Redditch United earned the right to play City in the final at Bromsgrove Sporting on Saturday after a 3-0 penalty shoot-out win over Kidderminster.

Evesham’s cause was not helped when Marcus Jackson was sent off by Holt Heath referee John Law just after the hour mark and then defender Liam Harding limped off, leaving the Robins to play the last 10 minutes with just nine men.

After a cagey opening, the game sprung to life when United took a 12th-minute lead. Ashley Williams threaded a ball in from the right which found forward Ashley Edenborough and he coolly buried a shot past keeper Daniel Lloyd-Weston into the bottom corner.

City should have levelled moments later but, after charging down keeper Josh Goddard`s attempted clearance, striker Ryan Rowe lifted his shot over.

A period of City pressure, however, was rewarded in the 26th minute when Sean Geddes squared the tie at 1-1 with a well-struck drive beyond Goddard.

The young custodian then safely gathered forward Daniel Nti’s flicked header and watched centre-half Alex Gudger’s effort sail over as City pressed for an interval lead.

But United finished the half on the front foot as Jared Wilson planted a volley wide from distance and Edenborough drove the wrong side of the upright with Lloyd-Weston beaten.

However, Evesham faced an uphill task in the second-half following Jackson’s departure after an altercation with City left-back Darren Campion.

They were fortunate to remain on level terms when Nti crashed a shot against the woodwork and Geddes blazed the rebound high and wide.

At the opposite end, United had penalty appeals turned down after Lee Smith was sent sprawling in the box before Dunkley settled the contest in the 80th minute.

He swept the ball home after a clearance by the Evesham defence fell kindly into the path of the City substitute.

After Saturday’s match, Evesham host neighbours Littleton in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday (7.45pm).

Evesham: Goddard, Jackson, Wellon, Williams, Sysum, Harding, Wilson (Wood 74), Stanley, Edenborough (Slack 79), Lee Smith, Washbourne (Brown 59). Substitutes not used: Maguire, Comfort.
