LITTLETON held their bowls club finals with Mike Emms and Jeanette Barnes taking the singles honours.

There was a good crowd watching throughout and the entertaining action culminated in the men’s final between Emms and Graham Corbett.

A 3-2 lead was taken by Corbett after five ends but he then fell 6-5 behind after 10 and 9-7 following 15.

Emms was first to reach the required target in an enthralling contest, winning 21-12 on the 28th end.

New bowler Christine Scott-Evans was level at 3-3 at five ends in the ladies’ final but Barnes came out with a convincing win in the end.

Ian and Rob Heming beat Ken Ballard and Emms 14-13 in the men’s pairs after 21 ends.

Emms was a comfortable winner over Dave Smith in the Secretary’s Cup but then lost 21-18 to Corbett in the George Cole Cup.

The Maiden Singles Cup saw Ian Heming edge out Rob Ormsby 21-19 after a close encounter.

Emms led a triples team of Ormsby and Dave Turner against Malcolm Tweney, Ian Heming and skip Rob Heming, who were convincing winners over 15 ends.

Umpires Sue Heming, Angela Roberts and Grahame Jones stood out in a range of weather conditions to ensure fair competition.

Previously, Littleton’s annual memorial day was held over rinks and triples with the overall winner being Rob Heming ahead of runner-up Doreen Bawn.

The funds raised will go towards new benches in memory of late members.

In a friendly against Leeway at Childswickham on an all-weather surface, Littleton lost in gusty and wet conditions.

They have a bowling tour to Torquay from Sunday, September 20, and anyone interested can call Mike on 01386-858258 or Grahame on 01808-395154.

The Wychavon Parish Games held their bowls competition at Bredon.

After a dry first round, the rest of the matches were played in, at times quite heavy rain.

Split into two groups of six, the winners played each other in the final.

By then, the rain had stopped and Bredon won by just one point against Badsey and Aldington. Bretforton were third with Eckington fourth and Crowle fifth.

Other parishes competing were Wick, Pinvin, Broadway, Hill and Moor, Fladbury, Wyre Piddle and Drakes Broughton.

The angling will be held on the River Avon on Saturday, September 19.
