THIRTY-THREE lady players from Evesham went to Herefordshire’s Burghill Valley for captain Joan Hunt’s away day.

They enjoyed a waltz competition for teams of three with the weather and course both kind to the visitors.

Jean Bevan, Dee Machin and Pam Hutcheon won with 73 points ahead of Sally Rogers, Ruth Masters and Margaret Williams (70).

Verity Lawrence won the two nearest-the-pin competitions, but donated one prize to the second-placed Carol Yates.

Three cups were contested at Evesham with different winners claiming the honours.

The All Comers Trophy at the Fladbury club went to Machin with 37 points on count-back from runner-up Jill Cleary.

In an open stableford, the Avon Cup for handicaps of 29 to 36 went to Lesley Kewley with 38 ahead of Angela Fletcher (35).

The Craycombe Trophy, also an open stableford, was hotly-contested with three ladies on 40.

Runners-up were Val Lemon and Mel Evans with the winner on count-back being Marlene Billings. Evans scored an eagle on the par-four 10th hole.

Meanwhile, an Evesham golfer has won a limited-edition BOSS watch for achieving a hole-in-one.

Stephen Donovan, 66, scored his ace on the 175-yard, par-three 11th at The Vale, Bishampton, and the 19-handicapper was also rewarded with membership of the BOSS Watches H1 Club.

Harvington Golf Society members returned to Burford for their championship event to find the Oxfordshire course in immaculate condition.

In the morning medal round, nett par was needed to make the cut and Terry Mead led on 66 with Rob Millward one shot behind and Steve Cantrill and Paul Harper also scoring below 70.

Mead maintained his form after lunch with 72 to win the championship, while Cantrill improved to runner-up position for the Cosmos Trophy with Millward third.

In the stableford non-qualifiers’ event, Mike Filleul won with 38 points chased by Leigh Canham (36) and Tony Soper (35).

Sixty-six golfers played in the Men’s Centenary Trophy at Broadway with the weather and course conditions near-perfect.

Stuart Sollis won with 65 nett and close on his tail but losing out on count-back was Simon Jennings, leaving Dan Lamb (66) to take third. Paul Wragby achieved lowest gross with 72.

The ladies competed in their England Golf Medal and Winifred Stephens Trophy.

Division One winner Veronica Rudd scored 76 nett with Nadine Simpkin and Molly King-Smith achieving second and third respectively on count-back.

In Division Two, Maggie McDivitt took first position with 73 ahead of Sue Jones (76) and Chris Parkinson (79).

Broadway’s mixed teams competed in the Barbara Stanley Trophy after torrential storms.

With 20 pairs playing foursomes stableford, John and Sonia Ward won with 35 points ahead of Bernie and Debbie Donoghue (34) and Lin and Mike Everitt (33).
