EVESHAM United moved into a play-off spot in the Evo-Stik Souther League South and West Division courtesy of a goal at the start of each half to beat a spirited Wantage Town 2-1 at the Jubilee Stadium.

Adam Mann got the ball rolling for United with His first goal of the season inside the opening five minutes and then George Washbourne capped an impressive display by adding Evesham’s second soon after the interval.

Sam Collier then reduced the arrears for Wantage with 18 minutes to go, but United comfortable saw out the remainder of the game to make it six games unbeaten for Paul Collicutt’s team.

The Robins made a dream start by taking the lead in their first attack when Mann got on the end of Dam Macdonald’s inch-perfect through ball. Mann Confidently slotted the ball past Ed Cavanagh into the bottom corner.

He then went close to extending the lead, but after rounding Cavanagh he hit his shot into the side-netting.

Evesham had a scare on the half-hour when Nick Thorne got behind the red and white’s defence but pulled his shot across the face of an unguarded goal.

The score stayed at 1-0 until the break before United increased their lead five minutes five minutes into the new half.

The hard-working Mann turned provider by making ground down the left before crossing to the unmarked Washbourne who powered the ball beyond Cavanagh into the roof of the net.

The Wantage keeper then produced a superb save to keep out Matt Symon’s header as Evesham pressed for a third goal.

It was Wantage who found the net next, however, when Collier headed home.

A comeback was never on the cards as United shut up shop to see out time and a deserved three points.
