OMBERSLEY sit proudly on top of the Birmingham and District Cricket League Premier Division following their second victory of the season.

After two weeks, they are the only side in the top tier with a 100 per cent record.

The Worcestershire outfit’s victory came about via the DLS method of scoring after a rain interruption during Knowle & Dorridge’s reply to the home side’s total of 223-9.

Defending a revised total of 219, Ombersley restricted the visitors to 172-9 with skipper Arti Fiaz taking 3-34.

Earlier, opening batsman Liam Gwynne struck 108 from 132 balls to provide Ombersley with a great platform for their eventual total.

For Knowle and Dorridge, Beau Webster and Ben Brookes took three wickets apiece.

Elsewhere, there were victories for Barnt Green and West Bromwich Dartmouth over Walmley and Kidderminster respectively.

A superb spell of 5-44 from Simon Jackson, aided by 3-25 from Tom Brown, sent Walmley packing for 150 but it needed 55 from Will Baker and 41 from Matthew Lamb to steer Green to a narrow two-wicket success.

Dartmouth’s total of 247-5 against Kidderminster was built around 75 from Ateeq Javid and 74 from Kadeer Ali before former England and Worcestershire bowler Kabir Ali stepped up to take 5-29 as Kidderminster fell away to 148 all out in 35.3 overs.

The DLS method determined the outcome of four matches in Division One, where newly-promoted Bridgnorth are the only side with a 100 per cent record.

In a match unaffected by nearby thunderstorms, the Shropshire side edged to a five-run win over Brockhampton, who one year ago were two divisions higher than the side who defeated them.

A blistering 81 from 78 balls from Dan Vernon boosted Bridgnorth to 214 all out in 44.4 overs after a more sedate 43 from 96 balls from Ian Gregory had given them a solid start.

Jamie McIlroy took 3-28 for Brockhampton but the Herefordshire side slipped to 115-5 before Nick Powell (59) and Callum Stewart (31) staged a recovery.

The game could have gone either way at this stage but Vernon rounded off a fine individual performance by picking up four of the last five wickets to fall for 49 as Brockhampton finished five runs short with two balls remaining.

A splendid unbeaten 137 from 137 balls by Worcestershire's George Rhodes helped Barnards Green to a formidable total of 265-7 at Himley with Andy Ford adding 54 from 47 balls towards the end of the innings.

Ryan Brown (3-44) and Arfan Khan (3-56) shared six of the seven wickets to fall but Himley’s middle order collapsed after Greg Wright (65) and Will Fraine (28) had given the innings a steady start.

The Black Country side had reached 159-8 from 39 overs when the match was ended by heavy rain, which left them 80 runs short of the necessary target set by DLS.

The most explosive innings of the day came from Bromsgrove‘s Jayden Levitt, who smashed 128 from 82 balls, an innings that included 14 fours and five sixes.

Unsurprisingly, Attock wilted under this onslaught with Worcestershire's Alexei Kervezee (53), Ryan Pedley (43) and Ben Tegg (41) adding to their woes as Bromsgrove raced to 329-8 from 50 overs.

There was a brief interruption for rain during the Attock reply but they were eventually 192 all out, 135 runs short of their revised target, with Zahoor Azam top scoring with 43.

At the start of their innings, a fine opening spell from Alex Wilkinson (5-50) reduced them to 33-4, after which, there was no way back for the Birmingham side.

Old Elizabethans' total of 171 all out at Wombourne was not quite enough with the home side edging home by two wickets in Division Two.

Kuldeep Diwan (4-12) and Ben Robinson (3-32) proved to be a handful for OEs, who lost wickets at regular intervals with Jack Taylor (34) the only batsman to exceed 30.

In reply, Wombourne stuttered to victory after Waqas Ahmed had set them on their way with 57.

Damon Gariff took 3-26 for OEs but 30 from Ian Walker, 29 not out from Adam Quiney and 24 from Diwan saw Wombourne to their first win of the season. Contrasting victories for Pershore and Fordhouses have taken them to the top of the embryonic Division Three table after two matches.

Pershore crushed fellow newcomers Lichfield by 147 runs.

A composed 86 from 118 balls from Adam Wiffen proved to be the cornerstone of Pershore’s total of 228 -9, well supported by 40 from Joe Taylor.

Lewis Peat (3-46) and Wade Van Zyl (3-51) were the pick of the bowlers for Lichfield, who had no answer to left-arm spinner Taylor Pugh as he produced the best bowling figures of the season so far with 7-17.

Eastnor piled up 285-9 against Astwood Bank with 108 from Atiq ur-Rehman and 63 from Mahaaz Ahmed.

Andrzej Jagielski took 3-33 and Tom Harris snapped up 3-38 for Astwood Bank, who faced a revised target of 258 from 42 overs after a break for rain.

Stephen Adshead thumped 84 from 60 balls and Sam Thomas finished unbeaten on 54 but they were six runs shy of their target when their innings closed.
