HURDLER Heather Paton was proud after a personal best in her first senior event for Scotland.

The ex-Worcester club athlete clocked 13.86 seconds for a PB in the 100-metre hurdles at the Loughborough International.

Although disappointed to finish fourth, the 20-year-old from Evesham was delighted with her time and feels she is on track for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

“It was fantastic to get a PB,” she said. “It didn’t feel like it was a great race and I was quite disappointed when I finished but then I saw the time and I was really chuffed.

“When you get under 14 seconds, it gets you into the next lot of competitions and I am moving up the rankings as well.

“I need to get 13.50 (to qualify for the Commonwealth Games) but it all bodes really well.”

Birchfield Harriers' Paton, the daughter of former Worcester Warriors coach Billy McGinty, tops the Scottish rankings and is 11th in the UK.

She has since set another PB with 13.76 for sixth place in Argentan, France.
