MANAGER Paul Collicutt admits Evesham United have “made life very difficult for themselves” as they launch their Southern League Division One South and West campaign at Salisbury tomorrow (3pm).

After a busy summer off the pitch, the Robins boss feels he has put together his “strongest” side since taking over in 2013.

But, with captain Matt Sysum banned for the first two matches and defender Linden Dovey and striker Adam Mann unavailable, Collicutt says he is bracing himself for a tough start.

“As much as I am feeling positive, I am disappointed that over the first two or three games we have got players missing due to holidays and suspension,” said Collicutt, whose side host Didcot Town on Tuesday (7.45pm).

“We are making life very difficult for ourselves early on.”

Collicutt labelled promoted Salisbury, managed by ex-Leicester City striker Steve Claridge, as one of the title favourites.

“They have got some very good players and signed Justin Bennett, who has scored goals for fun over the years at this level and higher,” he added.

“We have got our work cut out on Saturday but I am looking forward to playing the likes of Salisbury and Hereford.

“It is going to be the strongest league since I have been at the club, which will make every game a difficult one.”

Since winning their appeal to stay in the division where Evesham finished just outside the play-offs last season, a number of new faces have joined.

Striker Paul Fahy, returning winger Elliot Kennedy and midfielder Jordan Bryan are among those set to feature and Collicutt says his new-look side are relishing the upcoming campaign.

“It gave everyone a lift when the decision (on the appeal) came through,” Collicutt said. “We have been on an upward trend since then, the club is bubbly at the minute and everyone is looking forward to the start.

“I am not making any forecasts but the squad this season is the strongest I have had since being at the club, so it is now down to the players to perform.”
