A SPECTACULAR first-half goal from Adam Mann helped Evesham United to a 1-0 win at Shortwood United in an FA Trophy preliminary round tie.

The opening 45 minutes was end to end and could easily have seen a hatful of goals.

However, the only goal of the match arrived in the 35th minute when, from a corner, Mann netted with a bicycle-kick.

Evesham controlled the majority of the second half but failed to add to their tally.

The Robins will now host Southern League Premier Division outfit Frome Town in the first round on October 29.

Hereford boss Pete Beadle slammed his side’s defending after they crashed to a 4-3 defeat at Salisbury in an entertaining tussle between the phoenix clubs.

Striker-turned-defender Eddie Perrett hit a brace for Steve Claridge’s Salisbury, who avenged a defeat to Hereford in last season’s FA Vase semi-final.

Tommy Wright put Salisbury ahead before quick-fire goals from Mike Symons and John Mills put the Bulls 2-1 ahead at the break.

But Justin Bennett’s drive, either side of Perrett’s double, pulled Salisbury clear. Mills converted a late penalty but Salisbury held on.

Beadle blasted: “It was not entertaining for me. Again, we showed our ineptitude to defend.”

Pershore Town’s recent run of good results came to an end with a 3-1 defeat at Bolehall Swifts in Midland League Division One.

The hosts led 3-0 at the break with goals from Dave Yonwin, Joseph Obi and Jordan Francis.

Town grabbed a 72nd-minute consolation from Dane Aldington.

Jamie Clarke, Gareth Evans and Will Gayton also went close.
