EVESHAM’S Olly Turner prepares for his first round in the British Racing and Sports Car Club Fiesta Junior Championship at Brands Hatch on April 8 and 9.

The Prince Henry’s High School pupil, 14, is driving with Northampton's Jam Sport Racing who have enjoyed success in the Ford Fiesta Formulas and the BARC Renault Clio Cup.

Turner has completed winter testing in his Ford Fiesta ST and shown promise under coach Ryan Hooker.

His first car outing was at Rockingham in February in cold, wet conditions where he confidently performed similar times and speeds to seasoned drivers.

Test days at Snetterton, Brands and Silverstone followed, giving Turner and the team opportunities to get to grips with the vehicle and different venues.

The young racer's roots are in stock cars on ovals but the Ginetta Cars Scholarship finalist is determined to impress in circuit racing.

He said: “This is a massive step, one that has been in planning for two years now and I cannot wait to get this season started.

"I could not have even got to the start line without the support and vision of Jamie Going at Jam Sport and other key players.

"My family have taken a leap of faith to back me going into this form of racing. It is not a small task.

"My dad Alec, who does a majority of the work on the car day-to-day, is instrumental in my ambition to race cars as a career.

"Sara my mum manages just about everything else. It is a massive team effort.

"Those sponsors who have come on board lately I am very grateful to and those who are continuing to be involved and of course all my friends and well wishers generally.

“The plan this year is to really enjoy the racing, get on the podium in this fantastic and fast formula as many times as I can and do everyone proud.”

Turner is trying to raise the profile of Gloucestershire Young Carers, a charity he volunteers at.

His school have been supportive and his GSCE options are based around his future education and plans as a race driver.

Turner's ambition is to become a professional driver and compete in endurance at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
